Coastal Glass Backsplashes
Coastal glass backsplashes bring the light and calm of the shoreline into the kitchen. Every Zaanvo coastal design is printed on the back of 4 mm tempered glass — the artwork stays crisp and unbleached behind a smooth glossy front that catches natural light the way a real coastal window would.
Choose from open-ocean panoramas, quiet dune-line photographs, painterly beach scenes and delicate shell studies. Every design is available in standard sizes or made to measure for your exact wall.

Choosing a coastal backsplash for your kitchen
Coastal designs work in more kitchens than most people expect. A soft blue-and-sand horizon reads calm in a modern coastal condo. A moody storm-cloud seascape brings drama to a dark blue or charcoal kitchen. A close-up shell study feels tailored in a smaller galley kitchen where a full horizon would feel busy.
The color that matters most is the sky in the image, because it's usually the largest area of continuous color. A pale-blue morning sky reads airy; a golden-hour sky brings warmth; a dramatic overcast sky reads sophisticated. Look at your kitchen light before you choose — north-facing kitchens want the warmer sky, south-facing kitchens can handle a cooler one.
Palette and cabinetry pairings
White and off-white cabinets are the classic pairing for coastal artwork — they let the ocean colors carry the entire palette. Natural wood cabinets (oak, ash, warm maple) work particularly well with sand and dune imagery, echoing the natural textures already in the room. Soft blue or sage cabinetry is more adventurous but stunning when the backsplash artwork picks up the same tone.
Countertops should stay quiet. Honed white marble, solid quartz in a soft off-white, and butcher-block all recede appropriately. Avoid heavily patterned surfaces — they compete with the horizon in the artwork.
Sizing coastal panels for wide walls
Coastal panoramas are best on wider panels because a horizon reads more powerfully at scale. If your backsplash space is wider than 90 cm (36 in), consider a single continuous piece rather than multiple smaller panels — the eye reads a single horizon as a room-changing feature. Every coastal design is available as a fully custom width and height in our design tool.
Installation summary
Coastal panels ship with the same four complimentary mounting options as every Zaanvo backsplash (silicone, double-sided tape, silicone + tape, metal hangers). A screw mounting kit is available for an optional $20. Active installation takes approximately 15 minutes with two people; allow approximately 24 hours for silicone to cure when a silicone option is used.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my own beach photograph?
Yes. If you have a beach or ocean photo that means something personal, upload it through the custom-photo builder. Original camera files give the sharpest print — screenshots and social-media downloads tend to be too compressed.
Will an ocean image look right behind a stove?
Yes. Coastal artwork sits particularly well behind a range because a horizon reads calm and gives the eye somewhere restful to land while you cook. Placement above a hob is our most-installed coastal use case.
Do I need a specific size for a coastal panorama?
Not a specific size, but wider panels flatter panoramas. Anything wider than 90 cm reads as a proper landscape; smaller pieces still work but crop tighter.
